What a transfer is
A transfer moves stock from one place to another. Inside one store, from the back room to the shop floor or from the damaged shelf back to the floor for example, it is done as it is recorded. Every edition does this, Lite included.
Between two stores it is two steps, by two people. The sender says what went: the stock leaves their shelf at once and sits in the other store's On its way here place, where it cannot be sold. The receiver says what arrived, and that moves onto their shelf. Transfers between stores and warehouses are part of the Organizational and Enterprise editions: on Lite, To offers only the places of the store the stock leaves.
Moving stock
- Press Move stock.
- Choose where the stock is leaving From and where it is going To.
- Add each product with how many. A product with serial numbers needs the number of each unit.
- Press Send to the other store, or Move the stock inside one store.
Receiving a transfer
- In the store the stock was sent to, open the transfer and press Receive.
- Each line starts at what was sent. Lower it to what really arrived. For a product with serial numbers, untick the units that did not come.
- Press Receive what arrived.
What was sent and did not arrive is written off as lost on the transfer, by the receiving store, and the transfer shows it with Open the write-off. More than was sent cannot be received: receive what was sent, and put the rest right with a stock count.
A transfer still on its way can be called back by the sender with Cancel the transfer and a reason. The stock goes back where it came from.
What reaches the books
A transfer posts nothing. The stock is on record somewhere the whole time, at the value it left at, so the value of stock still equals the Retail inventory account while goods are on a van. A shortage posts as any write-off does: debit Stock losses and write-offs, credit Retail inventory.
