Stores, locations and registers

A store is a place you sell from or keep stock in. Each has stock locations, the shop floor, a back room and a shelf for damaged goods, and a store that sells has registers. A register is a drawer: it numbers its own receipts and has one session open at a time.

Add a store adds one, with a shop floor and a damaged shelf made for it. How many stores you can run depends on your edition: Lite is one. A store, a location or a register is switched off rather than deleted, and is refused while a session is open in it or stock is on record there.

A store that has been sent stock from another store also has a location called On its way here, made for it by the first transfer. Stock waits there until the store receives it, and nothing is sold from it. See Transfers.

A store keeps its address, its phone and its Opening hours, typed as you would write them on the door. They are words on the store's record: nothing opens or closes by them.

How this store's tills take cards is the company's way, set under Retail setup › General, until a store is given a way of its own: a shop that has a card machine its others do not, for example. Choose one on the store's form; choosing The company's way puts it back. A store with a way of its own is marked with it under Its tills take cards, and keeps it when the company's way changes.

On an edition with online orders, a store may also list a register called Online orders, marked Accmerio's own. Accmerio makes it the first time an order paid online is completed in that store, and records those sales in it. It has no drawer and no till: it is not changed or switched off, and no till is registered on it.

Registering a till

  1. Press Register a till.
  2. Choose whether it is a sales till or a registration terminal, the store and, for a sales till, the register.
  3. Read the activation code. It is shown once, works once and runs out after 24 hours.
  4. On the device, open the Retail POS app, sign in, and type the code under Register this device.

One register has one sales till at a time, from when it is registered until it is disabled, whether or not its code has been used yet. A register that already has a till is not offered under Register a till, and a second is refused there rather than on the device. To replace a till, Disable it first, then register its replacement. New code gives a device a fresh code, after which it has to be activated again; for a disabled till it is refused while its register has another. Disable stops a device at once, whoever is signed in, with a reason; use it for a lost or stolen device, or for a till registered by mistake.

The Windows till app

Under the tills, Windows till app is shown to whoever manages tills or stores. Once Accmerio has published the app, it shows its version and size and Download. Until then it says the till works in a browser today.

The app is the same till as in a browser, in a window of its own. Under Printing in the app, choose the Receipt printer and switch Print without asking on, and receipts print with no dialog; see Scanners and printers in the tills chapter. It is installed on each computer, and each till still has to be activated with a code from Register a till, as now.

The SHA-256 printed on the card is the file's fingerprint, for checking that what was downloaded is what Accmerio published. See Known limits for what to expect when installing it.
