Balance Sheet

What the company owns and owes at one date, and the check that it balances.

Updated

Reading it

  1. Open Reports › Balance Sheet, set As at and choose the Basis.
  2. To set it beside another date — the last year end, say — fill in Compare with (optional). The same statement is drawn again at that date, in a second column. Clear the date to go back to one column.
  3. Read the check at the top. It must balance: assets equal liabilities plus equity. With a comparison date, each column must balance on its own, and the check says so for both.
  4. Assets: current (cash, receivables, input VAT) and non-current (fixed assets at cost less accumulated depreciation).
  5. Liabilities: current (payables, VAT, salaries) and non-current (loans).
  6. Equity: capital, retained earnings, and two lines the product works out — current-year earnings and prior years' earnings not yet rolled over.
  7. Press any account's row to open its statement, over the financial year to the As at date. The two computed earnings lines have no account behind them, so their rows do not open.
  8. To keep or send it, press Download and choose PDF (on your letterhead) or Excel (amounts as numbers). The file has the same columns as the screen, the comparison date's included.
